Our Lady of the Nativity Primary

In all things may God be glorified

History

Our Lady of the Nativity School was established as a boarding school for girls in 1929 by the Good Samaritan Sisters and was officially opened as a school on 7 April 1929 by Archbishop Kelly.

The school continues to be recognised for its special place in serving the Blue Mountains community and the wider mission of the Church.

Mission and Vision

Our Lady of the Nativity Primary school is a co-educational Catholic primary school striving to fulfil our vision to glorify God in all aspects of life and learning. We place great emphasis on establishing a partnership between home and school. With this in mind, our mission is to:

  • provide for the learning and development needs of each child
  • provide a supportive, safe and nurturing environment
  • encourage life long learning
  • recognise the worth of every individual
  • celebrate together in faith

School Description

Located in the beautiful Blue Mountains, Our Lady of the Nativity is a one stream school of 203 students.

The school serves the parish of Our Lady of the Nativity and draws on students from the villages of Lawson, Hazelbrook, Bullaburra, Wentworth Falls and Woodford.

Educational Program

The school provides a comprehensive support structure for students with special needs.  There are also specialist teachers who plan and implement programs in Japanese language and culture, music, gross motor skills (K-2) and drama. Initial work has also begun in the area of gifted education.

Extra Curricular & Special Programs

The school offers a broad range of experiences within a comprehensive and holistic curriculum. Students compete in district and regional sporting events including indoor soccer at Katoomba and diocesan cross-country, swimming and athletics.

Students and teachers also take pride in our natural environment and a school gardening club works to care for our gardens and establish new plantings.

Religious & Pastoral Programs

Religious Education is based on the diocesan program, Sharing Our Story and the units are covered using a two year cycle, with the exception of Kindergarten who cover their units yearly.

Sharing Our Story units are taught in the sacramental years as a support for and reinforcement of concepts taught through the parish-based sacramental programs.

Community/Parent Involvement

Parents immerse themselves fully in the life of the school by assisting in classrooms, the library, school canteen, uniform shop, working bees, fund raising and the School Council. The School Council is supported by a number of committees and is beginning to make important contributions to school life.

A significant number of parents also contribute to the community through the Care Group and the many outreach programs that have been established.
