Mission & Vision
Mission & statement of purpose
In our ministry in Catholic schools in the Parramatta Diocese we strive, as a work of love, for the full human development of our students, grounded in the teachings of Christ and at the service of society.
Vision
Our system of schools in the Diocese of Parramatta seeks to be:
To be authentically Catholic is to take a radical stance which is firmly based on the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church and is enlivened by the joy of the Risen Christ.
We will live out our commitment to be authentically Catholic by:
- actively giving expression to our belief in Christ in our teaching, our practice and our policies
- promoting a vibrant spiritual life through life-giving prayer and liturgy
- working in close collaboration with all those engaged in the Church's pastoral work and, in particular, local parishes
- providing a quality religious education program which nurtures the integration of faith in the lives of students
- contributing to a diocesan community in which relationships are characterised by mutual regard, forgiveness and Christian hope
To be inviting, inclusive and just is to ensure that we work to promote the common good in our schools, the system as a whole, and the wider society.
We will be inviting, inclusive and just by:
- ensuring that our schools embrace the diversity of people and cultures
- promoting collaborative practice
- reaching out particularly to those who are poor, marginalised and most in need
- ensuring that administrative and educational practices address the issues of access and equity
- taking a public stance on issues of injustice and inequality
Our schools are educating communities (The Catholic School on the Threshold of the Third Millennium: 18). The promotion of quality teaching and learning is a fundamental obligation of all who are involved in education – parents, teachers and priests. Our students are our first priority.
We will promote quality teaching and learning by:
- recognising and responding to the individual needs, talents and interests of all students
- celebrating student achievements in the widest possible range of endeavours
- naming our beliefs about good teaching and learning, and striving to attain these at all times
- striving to create a school experience in which learning is purposeful and relevant to the lives and ongoing development of students
Quality teaching and learning will be promoted by the ongoing development of staff. Such development should encompass the personal, spiritual and professional dimensions of our mission in Catholic education.
We will support the ongoing development of staff by:
- valuing career-long learning for all
- providing all staff with access to appropriate, growth-promoting development opportunities
- recognising and celebrating staff achievement and excellence
- encouraging staff to strive for growth through creative and critical reflection with colleagues on their practice
