Awards presented on Mary MacKillop Feast Day
The parish and school community of St Joseph's, Kingswood, recently joined together for a liturgy to celebrate the Feast Day of Blessed Mary MacKillop.
Parish Priest, Fr Paul Hopper, led the celebrations, which included the presentation of four special Mary MacKillop awards. As St Joseph’s is associated with the Mary MacKillop order, these awards are presented annually to students from St Joseph's who have demonstrated an active commitment to bringing the work and service of Mary MacKillop to life in the school community.
The award recipients were chosen because they consistently give witness to faith in Jesus. They demonstrate their Christian living through action, where they see a need they do something about it. They also demonstrate similar qualities of Blessed Mary MacKillop; compassion, courage and patience.
St Joseph’s Principal, Allan Gatenby, Assistant Principal, David Lee and teachers selected the award recipients.
”These four children make a very significant difference to our school,” said Hala Jibrail, LTST/Technology Teacher at St Joseph’s.
Mary MacKillop was a great Australian woman, who inspired dedication to God's work in the new colonies of Australia in the 1800s and early 1900s. In today's world she stands as an example of great courage, trust and compassion in her care of those in need and commitment to dignity and justice for all.
