Executive Director Summer Reading Challenge winners announced

During the summer holidays, students in the Parramatta diocese were encouraged to take part in the Executive Director’s Summer Reading Challenge and read 10 or more books to go into the draw to win an iPod Touch.

Congratulations to the three winners of the Executive Director’s Summer Reading Challenge, who have each won an iPod Touch for their summer reading efforts.

The winners for the three age categories are:

Ages 5-8
Jasmine Sarkis (8)
St Anthony's Primary, Girraween

Ages 9-12
Lauren Pearce (11)
St Bernadette's Primary, Dundas
  •  
Ages 13+
Maira Suarez (15)
St Andrew's College, Marayong


In total, 7,590 books were read by 439 students from across the Parramatta Diocese.  A special congratulations to St Matthew’s Primary, Winsdor who had the most participants in the challenge with 55 students reading a total of 820 books. A great effort.

Year 2 student, Sebastian Summut, from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary, Wentworthville has also been awarded a special prize for reading the most books in all age categories across the Diocese with a total of 199 books read.

Executive director of schools, Greg Whitby said he was pleased to see students taking a keen interest in the Summer Reading Challenge.

‘Reading is such a valuable vehicle for learning and it is great to see so many of our students enjoying their time reading their favourite books,’ said Greg. ‘If we can develop a love of reading in our children, we can lay the foundation for a lifelong love of reading and learning.’

The winners will each receive their iPod Touch in a presentation in the coming weeks and all students will receive a certificate of participation.
