ICT trainees graduate with real world experience
On Friday 9 December, more than 60 trainees from Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Training Program graduated with nationally recognised qualifications.
Catholic Education is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and works in partnership with the Australian Training Company to offer Information and Technology traineeships to Year 12 students in the year following the completion of schooling.
The traineeship combines full time work and structured training with participants obtaining a Certificate III in Information Technology upon successful completion of the 12 month program. Opportunities for Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) are also available to trainees who are invited to participate in a second year of the program. A number of Certificate IV trainees are offered the opportunity to work as a mentor to new trainee cohorts to support their learning and develop leadership skills.
Executive director of schools, Greg Whitby, who attended the ceremony said the program’s success is based on combining experience with qualifications.
‘The benefits of this program are multidimensional with trainees able to combine real-world working experience with industry recognised formal qualifications,’ said Greg. ‘It’s the reason we have seen the program grow from eight participants in 2002 to more than 70 participants in 2012.’
Representatives from industry partners Mac1, PCS Australia and Lenovo were present at the award ceremony and presented the trainees with certificates and graduation gifts.
