Loyola HSC achievement recognised at annual Principal’s assembly

118 students who applied for an ATAR were offered places at university

Loyola Senior High School, Mount Druitt hosted their annual Principal’s Assembly on Tuesday 14 February to recognise the achievement of their Higher School Certificate (HSC) students class of 2011.
Each year, Loyola holds an assembly to acknowledge and congratulate their graduates who have achieved both at the school and in their HSC examinations. Many past and current supporters of the school were invited to the assembly and to present awards including founding principal, Fr Ross Jones SJ; Holy Family Parish Priest, Fr Edward Dooley; Fr Pat Mullens SJ, Superior of the Jesuit Community in Mount Druitt; Associate Prof. Br Jude Butcher from the Australian Catholic University; Associate Prof. Kevin Holohan from the University of Notre Dame; David Jones from TAMBA Training; Catholic Education directors system performance, Anna Dickinson and Sophie Ryan, and principals from neighbouring Catholic schools.
In 2011, Loyola achieved their best ever HSC results and saw significant increases in University offers and Band 5 and Band 6 results in 2011.
Loyola achieved Band 6 results in the following subjects: Advanced English, Extension English, Studies of Religion, Music, Mathematics, Extension Mathematics, General Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Hospitality, Filipino Continuers, PD/H/PE, Community and Family Studies and Legal Studies.
118 students, representing 80 per cent of the grade, who applied for an ATAR were offered university places and will commence studies at the following universities: Australian Catholic University, University of Sydney, UNSW, Macquarie University, Wollongong University, University of Notre Dame, University of Western Sydney and Charles Sturt Universities three regional campuses.
Loyola’s principal, Robert Laidler, said the level of achievement reflected the dedication and commitment to quality learning outcomes at Loyola.
‘Results like these just don’t happen they are the product of many hours of effort by students responding to the challenge of HSC study, and the work of dedicated and very experienced teachers who give generously of their time and ability in the quest to improve student outcomes,’ said Robert. ‘Our Vocational Education Training (VET) results are also going from strength to strength with 68 students awarded a Certificate II and III for completion of vocational courses.’
Maria Tzanellis, Loyola’s 2011 DUX, was also invited to address the assembly. She will be undertaking a Bachelor of Economics at the University of Sydney this year.
‘When you go to this school, you are part of the Loyola family,’ said Maria. ‘There is always someone here to provide the help you will undoubtedly need throughout your studies. Push yourself to achieve because your mark will reflect your best efforts.’
