Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta has opened five new out of school hours care services (COSHC) in western Sydney to accommodate the increasing demand for before and after school care.
The new services, commencing this week, will provide high quality care for local Catholic school students aged 5 to 12 years onsite at the following schools:
- Bethany Catholic Primary School, Glenmore Park
- Good Shepherd Primary School, Plumpton
- Mary Immaculate Primary School, Quakers Hill
- Sacred Heart Primary School, Mount Druitt South
- St Angela’s Primary School, Castle Hill
Executive director of schools, Greg Whitby, said COSHC adds to the range of services offered by Catholic schools.
‘The out of school hours care services add to the overall services provided by Catholic schools in their local areas,’ said Greg.
‘The changing nature of the world means that more families require out of school care,’ he said. ‘By offering this care onsite at our schools, we are able to ensure a high quality of care and greater convenience for working parents.’
COSHC offers a structured program including craft, cooking, dramatic play, language and literature, outdoor play, group and individual projects and support for homework. Nutritious, balanced meals and snacks will be provided for breakfast and afternoon.
The services are operated by experienced and qualified supervisors and educators with close links to the primary schools and the local parish.
Each service can cater for up to 45 students per day before school and 60 students per day after school, with the exception of Good Shepherd Primary who can cater for up to 45 students before and after school. There are currently over 300 students accessing the services.
Catholic Education looks to expand this service for other Catholic schools in 2012.
