Tonight, New South Wales (NSW) will take on Queensland (QLD) in game one of the State of Origin at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne with a number of current and former students from Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Parramatta playing in the NSW teams.

In the Under 16s NSW team, seven of the 18 player squad come from schools within the Parramatta Diocese with Patrician Brothers’ College, Blacktown the most represented school in NSW featuring four students in the line up. Soni Hala, Tyrell Fuimaono, Jamie Hill and Robert Jennings from Patrician Brothers’ are joined by Dillon Khoury and Alex Twal from Parramatta Marist High School and Oliver Clark from Terra Sancta College, Schofields. The team will play prior to the main game.

Former Parramatta Marist High School student, Paul Gallen captains the NSW first grade State of Origin team and is joined by former Patrician Brothers’ College, Blacktown students, Luke Lewis and Jamie Bruher.

Patrician Brothers’ principal, Santo Passarello, said that the school is proud of their students’ achievements.

The first State of Origin match will be a significant event for Patrician Brothers' College,’ said Santo. ‘Our rugby league program is certainly reaping rich rewards and we are very proud of the achievements of both our current and former students.’

With so many representatives in the Under 16s and first grade sides, we say, ‘Go the Blues!’
