Patrician Brothers’ College win GIO Schoolboy Cup

More than 450 schools across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria competed in the rugby league competition

On Sunday 2 September, Patrician Brothers’ College, Blacktown were victorious in the final of the rugby league GIO Australian Schoolboy Cup, defeating Endeavour Sports High, Caringbah 32-6 in front of more than 1,200 Patrician Brothers’ supporters at Toyota Park in Cronulla.

This is the first time the Patrician Brothers’ team has won the final having been piqued at the post at the 2004 and 2007 finals. In 2012, close to 450 schools across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria competed in the prestigious rugby league competiton with Patrician Brothers’ games including convincing wins against St Gregory’s College, Campbelltown; Farrer Agricultural High, Calala; Hills Sports High, Seven Hills and Holy Cross College, Ryde.

Patrician Brothers’ principal, Santo Passarello, said it was a significant achievement for the school and recognised the community support in propelling the team to victory.

We have worked incredibly hard for this achievement. It was truly a community effort,’ said Santo. ‘Congratulations to all concerned, but particular thanks to Peter Ross who has been the architect of our rugby league program. He and his 2012 co-coach, Gregory Beacroft, all students, staff, parents and the wider community have contributed to this milestone in the school’s history.

We had over 1200 supporters including students, staff, parents, ex-students, ex-staff, Catholic Education personnel and members of the wider community cheering the boys on.’

The final between Patrician Brothers’ and Endeavour High will be televised on Channel 9 on Sunday 30 September prior to the NRL grand final.
