As Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull met with his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe to discuss trade and better relations, students from St Columba's Springwood were doing their bit too.

St Columba’s Catholic College, Springwood won The Australian School of The Year 2016 Award for Australian-Japanese relations essay comp.

Students in Years 8-10 Japanese classes of St. Columba’s Catholic College, Springwood had an opportunity to participate in the Australia – Japan Relations Essay Contest in 2016.
The contest was conducted by the Consulate- General of Japan, Sydney.

The aim of the contest was to encourage students to develop a better understanding of Australia-Japan relations among Australian secondary school students. It was a very competitive and prestigious completion.

St. Columba's was awarded the “Australian School of The Year 2016 ” Award due to the highest percentage of high quality essays written by their students.

The following students deserve special mention as they were awarded special prizes by the Consulate-General of Japan for their outstanding essays.

Bryce Wye (Year 9) and Samuel Stanford (Year 10) received a “Highly Commended” Award. Sarah Sharp (Year 9) and Max Cole (Y11) received an “Outstanding” Award.

These students and their parents were invited to attend an award ceremony by the Consul-General of Japan, Mr Keizo Takewaka at his official residence in Sydney on the 8 December accompanied by the College Principal, Mr Ryan and the Japanese teacher Mrs Shizue Sato.

St Columba’s congratulates these students on their brilliant achievements and all the students who participated in this contest for their great effort and excellent work.
