Teacher Awards

On Thursday 27 October, 66 leaders and staff from Catholic schools and the education office were recognised for a collective 2570 years of service and 50 years of leadership at a special ceremony at St Patricks Cathedral. The Staff Recognition Awards were presented by Episcopal Vicar for Education and Formation, Rev Christopher de Souza EV and Executive Director Greg Whitby at St Patricks Cathedral in Parramatta.

Awards were presented to those teachers and staff who have worked in Catholic education for 25 years or more and to leaders who have reached their 10th year in leadership positions.

In his address, Greg Whitby who also received a leadership award, said that jobs for life dont exist anymore and by 2020 the average job tenure will be around 3 years.

‘We can see here tonight that working for Catholic education challenges this norm, Greg said. ‘For me these awards highlight that working for Catholic education is not only life-long but life-giving.

‘We do this work because we believe we can improve the lives of students and in doing so, improve society, he said.

Over 1,000 leaders and staff also received service awards for up to 25 years at presentations at their local school community.
