Golfers have giving down to a tee

Children in need were the real winners at the 30th Annual Parramatta Diocesan Golf Day held during the recent school holidays. School and office staff, clergy and community members got together for an enjoyable day of golf and raised $12,000 for the San Miguel Family Centre at North Richmond.

Every evening the San Miguel Family Centre accommodates up to 15 families, including 40 to 50 children. The centre offers families short term accommodation and support including case management, child and youth development, and assistance to secure stable, independent accommodation. The centre relies almost exclusively on fundraising efforts to enable this important work to continue.

The funds raised by the Diocesan Golf Day will provide valuable resources for the centre’s breakfast club and homework club, and support for school holiday activities such as arts, crafts, reading and sports. This generous donation will also ensure that children have the essentials for the 2017 school year, including backpacks, lunch boxes, school shoes and uniforms.

Golf Day founder Ian Jordan says the funds will make a huge difference to children in crisis.

‘Thanks to all those who contributed to the success of the Parramatta Diocesan Golf Day the children of San Miguel will have the best possible start to the 2017 school year,’ Ian said.

In the last 30 years the Annual Golf Day has raised over $200,000 for a wide variety of charities including Caritas, Catholic Mission, Kids with Cancer, Little Angels Orphanage, Westmead Children's Hospital, the Bishop Manning Scholarship Fund and St Gabriel’s School for Hearing Impairment (Castle Hill).
