Good luck to our 2016 HSC students

Written HSC exams begin on Thursday 13 October
Written HSC exams begin on Thursday 13 October

This year, 77,163 students are enrolled in one or more Higher School Certificate (HSC) courses with more than 2,788 from the Parramatta diocese. The HSC is the highest education achievement in secondary education in NSW, with the written exams accounting for up to 50 per cent of most students’ final results.

The 2016 HSC written exams commence Thursday 13 October with all students sitting English Paper 1. Final exams will take place on Friday 4 November with all HSC results available from 6:00am on Thursday, 15 December 2016. Information on how to access the results can be obtained from the Students Online portal.

In a special video message to Year 12 students, Executive Director of Schools, Greg Whitby wishes them the best in their final exams and encourages students to draw on what they have learnt in their Catholic schooling to make a difference in the world.

‘The HSC is not as important as what is going to happen in the rest of your life,’ Greg said. ‘The point of the exercise is that you've been equipped to learn and to continue to learn.’

‘I thank the teachers who have looked after you. I thank the parents who have given us the opportunity to educate you and I want you to go out and be proud that you have had a Catholic Education in the Diocese of Parramatta,’ he said.

This year’s HSC is the 50th Higher School Certificate undertaken in NSW. Since its inception in 1967 there are notable differences, particularly in the number of courses being studied and the number of students completing Year 12 with the HSC. Yet, even in a computer literate age students are still required to handwrite their essays and answers to questions despite most of them being able to type much more quickly than they can write.

Best wishes and good luck to all of our HSC students.
