Catholic Schools Week was celebrated in the Diocese of Parramatta with schools opening up their doors and demonstrating to their local communities how they teach in their amazing learning spaces and embrace a sense of community.

Throughout the week schools hosted a variety of activities including open days and evenings, open classrooms, in-school liturgies and fundraising events to highlight the great things, which take place in Catholic schools every day.

At St Bernadette’s Primary school in Castle Hill, Catholic Schools Week began with a liturgy in the church which was a great opportunity for people to meet their newly appointed Priest Father Shinto, this was followed by an open day for new Kindergarten Enrolments on Tuesday and Friday capped off the week with open classrooms and visitors invited to engage in a Transforming Learning activity.

At St John’s Primary school in Riverstone, the Week gave them the opportunity to take part in social justice initiatives to help deepen students understanding of Catholic Social Teaching.

On Thursday, March 8 the school invited parents and carers to join their children in celebrating this week and support the school in raising funds for Caritas Australia through a sponsored bucket carrying activity and a kitchen community event.

At Our Lady of the Nativity Primary in Lawson, they opened their doors to the community on Tuesday and Friday mornings so people could walk through their amazing learning spaces, and on Thursday students were able to celebrate by dressing in Mufti and also raise money for Caritas.

At St Andrews Primary school in Marayong it was all about showcasing Every Learner, Every Day with special parent information sessions held throughout the week.

Principal Michael Tonnet said Catholic Schools Week provides his school community with the opportunity to show parents and visitors some of the many great things the children are doing in the school.

He said it is a great privilege for him to have spent his career teaching in Catholic schools and being a part of so many supportive and caring communities.

At Trinity Catholic Primary school, the week began with a liturgy in the school hall followed by open classrooms.

Throughout the week “pop up’’ surprises were the theme with Thursday being the highlight as it featured its Kindergarten to Year 6 Open Day.

Thanks to Australian Catholic Superannuation & Retirement Fund for their continued support of Catholic Schools Week.

Enrolments are now open. Simply contact your local Catholic school for further information.
