Kellyville Teacher Receives Rotary Award

Mrs Harvey receiving her award

Our Lady of the Rosary, Kellyville teacher, Vicky Harvey, has been awarded the prestigious Rotary ‘Pride of Workmanship Award’.

Mrs Harvey was nominated by Mr Devlin in 2017, and was presented with her award at a recent Hills-Kellyville Rotary Dinner.

This award recognises Mrs Harvey for her self-giving service to the Hills-Kellyville community which includes her teaching abilities and collegiality, to the love she has of the children.

Mrs Harvey’s commitment, energy, enthusiasm, loyalty and desire to go above and beyond for her children was described as exceptional.

In addition to her teaching role, Mrs Harvey is recognised for her gardening abilities, and for the love of nature and all things ‘green’ that she instils in the OLOR children.

More than 40 children belong to the OLOR Garden Club which meets at 6.30am every Wednesday morning to tend the school gardens.

The club is over 2 years old and under Mrs Harvey’s guidance, members dig, plant, water, mulch, weed, feed, compost, check worms, harvest and sell raffle tickets to raise money for the club.

The effects of the garden club can be felt beyond the school walls, as an amused parent recently reported the extent of their son’s learning while gardening over the weekend, when Mr 7 told his parents, “You’re doing it all wrong. You needed marigolds to attract the bees so the plants will grow better.”

She was congratulated on her achievement and thanked for her tireless work in the local community, and demonstrating what it means to be a co-creator to a more peaceful and just society.
