New opportunities for Catholic secondary students at Mt Druitt, Hassall Grove and Rooty Hill

New Opportunities

Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta today announced the renewal of three secondary schools in the Mount Druitt, Hassall Grove and Rooty Hill areas. This will see two local Catholic Year 7-10 high schools enrol Year 11 students for the first time in 2019 and the renewal of Loyola which will see it focus on providing greater access to high quality vocational education and training and enterprise skills.

Students at St Clare’s Catholic High School, Hassall Grove and St Agnes Catholic High School, Rooty Hill will soon be able to complete the Higher School Certificate at their current schools. This decision, together with a new approach focused on delivering the very best skills and vocational training for young people through Loyola, is a direct response to the needs of the students in these three communities.

The renewal of Loyola Senior High will give young people in Western Sydney even more access to high quality workforce skills and vocational education and training. As a 2017 Australian Training Awards Finalist, Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta will add to the many opportunities currently available through the Loyola Catholic Trade Training Centre to grow future career options for students. This will include building on strong existing relationships with employers and industry.

New students will continue to be welcomed into the Loyola Catholic Trade Training Centre in 2019 and beyond. Current Year 11 students will complete their Year 12 studies in 2019 at Loyola as planned.

Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta Executive Director Greg Whitby is confident that these plans, the result of much careful consideration, will provide exciting opportunities for the whole community.

“The decision to reimagine these vibrant local schools has been driven by the aspirations we share with local families for the young people of Western Sydney,” Greg said.

During the remainder of 2018, there will be extensive engagement and consultation with all stakeholders, including the school community, about the possible opportunities at Loyola beginning 2020.
