Congratulations to the eight finalists from Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta who were recognised in the 2016 Western Sydney Region NSW Training Awards on Friday 17 June 2016.

Catholic Education’s Registered Training Organisation Manager Karen Ruppert said 2016 was the best result so far in the Western Sydney Region NSW Training Awards.

‘Seven finalists from our RTO is our best-ever result for the awards,’ Karen said. ‘The regional winners will have the chance to represent the region at the state competition in September.’

Erin Gray from St Andrew’s Catholic College, Marayong was named the Western Sydney Region VET in Schools Student of the Year. She said she was honoured to receive the award and has gained so much from her VET study.

‘I was previously quite a shy student but this course has pushed me out of my comfort zone and my off-the-job training in class has improved,’Erin said. ‘There is no area in which I have not improved as a result of this training and consequently my value for my learning has never been stronger.’

Curtis Miller from Catholic Education ICT Trainee program won the Trainee of the Year award.

Laura McKinnon from Loyola Senior High School, Mount Druitt Catholic Early Learning Centre trainee, received High Achievement school-based trainee of the year.

McCarthy Catholic College received a record 3 finalists, William Attard, Luke Fornasier and Ben McCarthy.

The diocese was also represented in the VET Teacher of the Year category by Andrew Hickey of the Post School Options team.

Trainee of the Year finalist Eden Riley was also a graduate of VET Business Services at Caroline Chisholm College, Glenmore Park. Eden went on to do a business traineeship with Penrith City Council.

The Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta on behalf of the Catholic Trade Training Colleges (CTTC) were also Gold Sponsors for the event.

‘We chose to sponsor the awards to demonstrate our commitment to providing quality vocational education in Western Sydney and to highlight the achievements of our outstanding students’ Karen said. ‘The opportunities for all our students have expanded and pathways are no longer defined by an ATAR. Sponsoring the awards shines the light on these opportunities for all students.’
