St Agnes Leaders inspired to be part of the solution

St Agnes Catholic High School Year 10 Leaders heard firsthand the personal stories from Australian refugees at the recent 2018 World Vision Youth Conference and have been inspired to be a part of the solution.

Held at Luna Park, the Youth Conference drew together high school students from all over Sydney.

Students had the opportunity to hear from a number of guest speakers who shared their personal experiences of coming to Australia as refugees and trying to start over.

The St Agnes Leaders were moved by the stories of hardship encountered by so many throughout the world.

They learnt firsthand about the issues involved in being a refugee and were encouraged to become part of the solution.

A highlight of the day was the opportunity to work with peers who share their desire for a more just world.

One of the main goals of the Youth Conference was to empower the youth leaders to promote and run the 40 hour Famine Backpack Challenge to be held 17-19 August.

St Agnes School Captain, Vanie Barcelon, was inspired by the conference.

“Being in a room filled with a thousand passionate students from different schools was truly amazing,’’ she said.

“I am now willing to share my story with others and create a movement together.”

The conference was held at Luna Park

Fellow School Captain Jonathan Israel also found the day a remarkable experience for both the student leaders and the World Vision Coordinators.

Jonathan, Vanie and the other Year 10 Leaders are looking forward to seeing their school community embrace the World Vision Backpack Challenge later this year.
