St Luke’s makes it into the national top 40 innovative schools list!

St Luke

St Luke’s Catholic College Marsden Park may only be into its second year as a ‘next generation’ learning community but it is already turning heads in regards to its innovative approach to learning.

Recently it was recognised as one of the most innovative schools in the country, and was listed in a special report by The Educator Magazine as among the 40 future-focused schools which are breaking the mould in regard to how learning happens in schools.

The Educator’s report on St Luke’s described the Catholic College as setting the benchmark for establishing the ‘new normal’ for preschool to post-school learning in an environment characterised by a flexible, stage-based curriculum that nurtures children to become creative contributors and innovative problem-solvers for a changing world.

From day one, the school has been staged from 6.00am to 6.00pm with learning-focused activities as part of an extended school day.

Looking to the future, St Luke’s aims to become a ‘global school’ and plans to complement and connect the mandated core curriculum with each student’s personalised curriculum.

St Luke’s communications and marketing manager Nicky Alsemgeest said this achievement can only be reached with the support of the entire college community.

“The teachers and support staff … have dared to be courageous by honouring our commitment to design and establish a 'new normal' for preschool to post school learning as part of an extended school day,” Ms Alsemgeest said.

“The Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta has provided excellent support and encouragement. Our parents and supporters have adopted a pioneering partnering spirit that has allowed us to offer new thinking so that we can develop the students’ skills and capabilities for a changing world.’’

St Luke’s was featured on the Educator magazine’s website along with the 40 other innovative schools from around the country. The website site can be accessed here and the online PDF version is also available.
