Our Lady of Lourdes Seven Hills dancers won a Warakirri award with an outstanding routine

Student from Our Lady of Lourdes Seven Hills have won the prestigious Wakakirri Story Dance competition and are on their way to the regional finals.

The youngsters performed at Parramatta Riverside Theatre last week winning the Best Adapted Story award and will now perform at the NSW Sydney Region Finalist Awards Night.

A Wakakirri Story Dance is a 3-7 minute performance by a group of students who theatrically tell a story using a combination of dancing, creative movement and acting to pre-recorded music.

Each year hundreds of schools across Australia create Story-Dances for Wakakirri that reflect students' thoughts, ideas and aspirations. These stories are performed in professional theatres in front of the official 'Wakakirri Panel' who are searching for 'Story of the Year'.

Our Lady of Lourdes creative arts teacher Clare WIllemese said this was a very special achievement for our school community, due to the amazing efforts of the teachers, students and parents involved.

“We are the only Parramatta Diocese school in our division for our awards night and it’s a great credit to all the students who made such a big splash.

The aim of Wakakirri is to teach students about themselves and others through the creating and sharing of stories and by this process develop students’ educational outcomes, lifestyle choices and community awareness.

Established in 1992, Wakakirri is Australia’s largest Performing Arts Event for schools, involving over 20,000 students across every State and Territory.  Over 1 million people watch Wakakirri performances each year.
