Executive director presents at national congress on technology

Executive Director of Schools, Greg Whitby, joined renowned educators, Alan November, Barry McGraw, Sir Ken Robinson and Stephen Heppell in presenting at the Technology in K-12 Education National Congress, held from Wednesday 30 May to Friday 1 June in Sydney.
Providing the opening keynote presentation for Day 2 of the sold out event, Greg spoke to educators about using 21st century tools to enhance learning and teaching in schools and discussed the context of today’s world and the need to respond to the technological demands associated with it.
'At the centre of what we do is an understanding that every child can learn and that every child should learn; that is our responsibility,' said Greg. 'We need to understand that it is a very different world in which we live. At this point we have only seen a window into a possible future, the world is going to be fundamentally different and the question sets we ask and the assumptions we make about the nature of schooling have to change.'
Students were also given a voice at the congress with a panel of three students invited to address the 1000+ crowd on what they want to gain from their education and the ways in which they use technology. Year 12 student, Mark Elias from Parramatta Marist High School participated on the panel and drew praise from educators for his articulate and thoughtful responses.
'I wanted to convey that we want to learn to be adaptive in our thinking because there is no textbook approach to life and since the future is evolving and changing, we need the ability to think critically,' said Mark.
