Benefits to Schools

As well as meeting the demand for Catholic education in the area, the overall aim of the project is to replace and/or upgrade existing facilities for each of the schools. This is to provide greater flexibility and improve the functionality of current facilities to support contemporary learning needs, including to:

  • rejuvenate and renew educational facilities in the Westmead area
  • upgrade and/or replace existing facilities and demountables
  • improve functionality and flexibility of facilities to better support contemporary learning practices
  • address shortfalls in Catherine McAuley learning spaces
    • permanent learning areas increase by more than 70%
    • specialist learning spaces (e.g. Art, TAS) increase by more than 90%
    • outdoor spaces are consolidated and aggregated and increase by more than 50%
  • address shortfalls in Parramatta Marist learning spaces
    • permanent learning areas more conducive to project-based learning
    • specialist learning spaces (e.g. Art, TAS) increase by more than 60%
    • outdoor spaces are consolidated and aggregated and increase by more than 5%
  • provide separate and distinctive entrances for the new Mother Teresa Primary, Catherine McAuley Westmead and Parramatta Marist High
  • address the current visitor and student interaction and child protection issues
  • increase indoor assembly, sporting and multipurpose spaces – dedicated and discrete with capacity to be linked for joint use
  • increase outdoor passive and active recreational areas by consolidating disparate spaces to improve supervision and usability
