Westmead Catholic Community Project

Be more. Do more.

“Westmead Catholic Community Project will allow us to be more and to do more for the community we serve,”

Father Walter Fogarty, Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Parish, Westmead

In response to the rapid growth of the Westmead area, the Catholic Diocese of Parramatta has announced Westmead Catholic Community Project. This exciting project will explore the possibility of an expanded parish church and more opportunities for families to access a high-quality Catholic education.

“The project, which will involve our parish as well as all four local Catholic schools, is critically important if we are going to be able to meet our pastoral commitments as Westmead grows, particularly caring for those most in need,”

Father Walter Fogarty, Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Parish, Westmead

Sacred Heart Church

Sacred Heart Church

Originally intended only as an interim place of worship, Sacred Heart church is struggling to meet the needs of its thriving parish. Feedback will be sought on whether an expanded church is required and to determine how best to continue to serve the community as Westmead grows.

Catholic Education

Westmead Precinct Catholic Schools

Local schools Sacred Heart Primary, Mother Teresa Primary, Catherine McAuley and Parramatta Marist High School are also currently at capacity. This means that families seeking to join the Westmead Catholic Community through a quality faith-based education for their children are often turned away. The project will explore how the four schools can do more to respond to this demand. The schools will continue to operate separately but with a new emphasis on working together and with Sacred Heart Parish, Westmead.

Partnerships

The Westmead Catholic Community Project will mean more opportunities for the schools and parish to partner with other institutions such as the University of Sydney, Western Sydney University, Westmead Hospital and Westmead Children’s Hospital as part of the NSW government’s redevelopment of the Westmead Hospital Precinct. The initiative is all part of the way that Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta is seeking to transform schools to meet the needs of the 21st century learner.

Consultation

“I look forward to sharing this journey with you and ask for your prayers as, together, we reimagine Jesus’ mission in our community,”

Father Walter Fogarty, Parish Priest, Sacred Heart Parish, Westmead.

Dates for consultation sessions and new information will be shared on this website as the Westmead Catholic Community Project progresses.
