Our Lady of the Nativity Lawson’s last day of Kindergarten Orientation saw the newest members of the school meet their school buddies and do a class activity together
Nothing beats the smell of bacon and eggs in the morning, especially as you make your way to school for morning drop off. This was exactly what greeted parents of Our Lady of the Nativity Primary Lawson at the school’s annual Belfanti Breakfast.
The community event is a much loved tradition at the school and sees families unite over a freshly cooked bacon and egg roll while catching up with each other and teachers. It was the perfect way to welcome in the school’s newest students who will start Kindergarten next year.
Our Lady of the Nativity Primary Principal Lisa Samojlowicz said the Belfanti breakfast is a tribute to the school’s late Religious Education Coordinator David Belfanti. David loved community, cooking barbecues and welcoming new people into the school community. “This is the perfect way to welcome in our new Kindergarten students on their last day of Orientation,’’ she said.
2020 Kindergarten teacher Cherie Baddock said the 2020 Year 6 students did a great job in making the Kindergarten students feel comfortable
All the new Kindergarten students got the chance to meet their teachers, enjoy a great interactive time in the classrooms and walk and talk hand in hand with their 2020 Year 6 buddies before introducing them to their parents.
2020 Kindergarten teacher Melanie Brown said every student will have a Super Buddy who will be there for them whenever they are feeling a bit sad or lost. “If ever you need help at school just find your buddy,’’ she said.
Fellow Kindergarten teacher Cherie Baddock said the students were very confident in the classroom. “There weren’t too many tears and I can see some friendships being built already. Our 2020 Year 6 students did a great job in making the Kindergarten students feel comfortable and they were even given a challenge to practice ‘30 seconds of courage’ when it came to introducing themselves to the Kindergarten parents,’’ Mrs Baddock said.
