CAPTIVATE
The Yard
The Yard is touring...Created by award winning choreographer Shaun Parker with CAPTIVATE students from Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta.
Drawing inspiration from William Golding's Lord Of The Flies and its analysis of human behaviour, THE YARD takes these themes and breathes new life into them by way of the Australian school yard, ultimately finding unity in the diversity of culture, gender and ethnicity that pulsate 'in the yard'. Taut with tension and humour of conflicts played out every day, the work celebrates the extraordinary in the ordinary.
THE YARD fuses hard hitting contemporary dance with break dance, locking, shuffling, popping, tutting, krumping, and jerking; all new forms of dance found on the streets and school yards of Western Sydney.
The Yard is touring NSW at Riverside Theatres, Parramatta; Illawarra Performing Arts Centre; Glasshouse, Port Macquarie and NORPA in Lismore. For dates - http://shaunparkercompany.com/theyard.html
The Spirit of Expression
Is the exciting Creative and Performing Arts initiative for primary and secondary Catholic schools in the Diocese of Parramatta.
By bringing together schools with established school-based programs and those schools seeking greater commitment in creative and performing arts, CAPTIVATE offers students a wide range of quality learning and performance opportunities beyond the scale and capacity of an individual school.
