Caroline Chisholm College, Glenmore Park students have been recognised as some of the most innovative young problem solvers in Australia!
Year 8 students Courtney Hamilton, Tia Stevenson, Jamie Wilkinson, Chanel Cunningham, Ella Yeomans and Stephanie Young recently put themselves forward in the GoIT challenge, making it through to the 2018 finals held at the University of NSW. Both teams came away award winners!
The GoIT challenge calls on Year 8 students across Australia to form teams of three and use the learning strands of science, technology, engineering and mathematics to solve real-world problems.
Teammates, Courtney Hamilton, Tia Stevenson and Jamie Wilkinson, did their school proud with their award winning submission, Protect Our Planet. Designed to highlight environmental issues, such as global warming, their multiple platform game showed how students could be empowered to make a difference in their world, through action. They were honoured to receive the “Most Innovative School 2018” award.
For their submission titled IVolunteer, teammates, Chanel Cunningham, Ella Yeomans and Stephanie Young were awarded the prestigious “Community Project Challenge 2018” award. They received this award in recognition of the way their software application, designed for both android and iOS platforms, is aimed at encouraging individuals to assist those within the community who are less fortunate than themselves.
The GoIT challenge inspires students to think differently about technology as a solution-focused resource. It does this at a time in their life when they are reflecting on how they see themselves in relation to technology, and as they move through the next few years of high school.

๐บ SOLD-OUT EVENT SO FULL OF HEART๐บ Our CSPD Pasifika FiaFia Night was a truly unforgettable event! ๐๐ฝ๐ด๐ถ โจ The Performance Hub at St John XXIII Catholic College Stanhope Gardens was packed with pride (and a huge audience!) as talented students from the host school joined by students from: ๐ St Clare's Catholic High Hassall Grove ๐ St Agnes Catholic High Rooty Hill ๐Patrician Brothers' College Blacktown took to the stage with powerful, joy-filled performances that celebrated culture and community. ๐ฅ A big thank you to Fire Justyce for bringing the heat in our pre-show entertainment, and to Bula 360 for helping families create fun, lasting video memories. ๐ฅ ๐ We were honoured to welcome Miss Samoa NSW (Epiphanny Wright), current Miss Samoa contestants, and Miss Tonga NSW - Monica Vave, a proud St Agnes alumna. A huge congratulations to Catherine McAuley Westmead student Niamh, who has won second place for Business Services in the 2025 National WorldSkills competition. ๐๐ฅ This was a rigorous, week long event held in Brisbane in which Niamh showcased her skills and expertise in the Business Services industry, competing with students from all over Australia. Incredibly proud๐ฅฐ๐คฉ of these outstanding athletes from Caroline Chisholm College, Patrician Brothers' College, Blacktown, Emmaus Catholic College, St Agnes CHS Rooty Hill and Gilroy Catholic College who were recently selected for NSW Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) teams to compete at the Australian Secondary Schools Rugby League Championships in Townsville and Coffs Harbour.๐๐โจ Josalynn Tooala (Emmaus), Chelsea Toby-Smith (Caroline Chisholm) and Savannah Tofaeono (St Agnes) were selected in the U16s Girls team while Patrician Brothers Blacktown had seven students (Jarryd Edmunds, Kingston Foggo-Dunwoodie, Hetu Masi, Spencer Sorenson, Siaโa Taveuveu, Tallis Tofilau, Bronson Tupou) selected for the NSW U15s CCC Boys team. Shoutout also to Patrician Brothers teacher Noah Meares who will coach the 15s boys team. This junior tournament kicks off this weekend in Townsville. The Under 18s tournament will be held in Coffs Harbour in mid July and will feature Caroline Chisholm student Hannah Ison in the U18s Girls while in the U18s Boys, Patrician Brothers have 10 students selected (Jasais Ah Kee, Cameron Bamblett, Andes Johansson, Mercellus Lakopo, Steven Nunn, Christopher Petrus, Christian Taupau-Moors, Roman Tuaimau, Steven Whalan, Charlie Xuerub) along with Nathan Howlett from Gilroy. Tying a knot ๐ชข๐คmight seem pretty basic, but in construction ๐๏ธ, getting it right is a vital safety skill. ๐ง๐ฎ๐ทโโ๏ธ ๐ A group of Years 9โ11 students from Santa Sophia Catholic College learned this and much more when they took part in a one-day practical introduction to the construction industry ๐งฑ๐ฆบ, thanks to the Regional Industry Education Partnership (RIEP) and the Lawrence Davis Training Centre.๐คฉ๐ฅฐ Trainers Keith and Kevin ๐ทโโ๏ธ๐ทโโ๏ธhelped each student master the prusik hitch - a vital knot for working at heights that locks securely under tension. ๐๐ The students also got hands-on experience with other industry tools and techniques, such as how to correctly wear a harness ๐ฆบ, tie ropes into backpacks ๐ชข, and use a laser level to construct a road. ๐ฃ

It's harrowing to think of a young person battling cancer๐ฅ, let alone one of our littlest learners as was the case for Holy Family Primary Luddenham Kindy student Nicholas who is thankfully on the road to recovery after treatment for leukaemia.๐โค๏ธโ๐ฉน The way the Holy Family school community rallied around little Nicholas๐๐ and his family and supported them throughout his treatment is truly heartwarming. They recently held a special morning tea to mark the end of Nicholas' treatment๐ฅ with all money raised going to Camp Quality which offers cancer support specifically for children aged up to 15 years.๐๐ซถ๐คฒ Nicholas and his family bravely want to tell their story to help other families going through a similar thing.
