Congratulations to our winners and all who entered the 2021/22 Executive Director's Summer Reading Challenge (EDSRC), it has been an incredible competition this year with a large number of entries.
Every Summer, students at Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta's 80 schools are encouraged to hit the books through the Executive Directors Summer Reading Challenge. Right across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, these children and young people have the chance to win great prizes every time they read something new.

🖤💛❤️ CELEBRATING CULTURE THROUGH STORY AND DANCE 🖤💛❤️ Caroline Chisholm College Glenmore Park proudly marked NAIDOC Week, reflecting on this year’s theme, '50 Years of Deadly', honouring five decades of strength, culture and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. A highlight of the celebrations was the powerful cultural performance by the College’s Djuramin Group, who shared a moving sequence of Darug dances - Welcome, Burradowee Eel Spirit, Colebee and Farewell. Their performance, developed through learning with Jannawi, brought storytelling, culture and connection to life for the College community. Students also engaged in enriching cultural learning experiences supported by the Jarara Cultural Centre and Captivate, including valuable insights into Weaving and its significance in Women’s Business within Aboriginal culture. 💛💙❤️ SUPPORTING VENEZUELA WITH HEART ❤️💙💛 The St Angela's Primary School Castle Hill community came together for a colourful Mufti Day in support of families in Venezuela affected by the recent earthquake. Students and staff proudly swapped their uniforms for the vibrant yellow, blue and red of the Venezuelan flag, standing in solidarity with those in need while raising vital funds through the school's partnership with Caritas Australia. Proceeds will help Caritas Venezuela provide emergency relief, food and essential supplies to affected communities. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the school community, the school has already raised an amazing $4,858! What a wonderful example of faith in action, compassion and the power of community 💛💙❤️

🎨💙 CREATIVITY THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE More than 125 students from 10 Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese schools have been recognised in the Jesuit Refugee Service Australia Refugee Week Creative Competition, using art, writing and video to share powerful messages of hope, belonging and welcome. In an impressive result, 14 of the 19 shortlisted entries were from CSPD students. Inspired by this year's Refugee Week theme, "A Million Stories", our students demonstrated incredible empathy and creativity as they reflected on the experiences of refugees and people seeking asylum. 🎓 EMPOWERING STUDENTS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS ✨ CathWest Innovation College Mt Druitt recently welcomed Susan Templeman MP, Federal Member for Macquarie and Special Envoy for the Arts, to see firsthand how the College is preparing students for life beyond school 🏫 By combining HSC studies with School-Based Apprenticeships (SBAs), CathWest is giving students the opportunity to build real world skills, gain industry experience and kick-start their careers while they're still at school. 🖤💛❤️ ART, CULTURE, COUNTRY 🖤💛❤️ As we continue to celebrate NAIDOC Week, we're inspired by the work of students from Catherine McAuley Westmead, who, in collaboration with the Jarara Cultural Centre, have created a powerful collaborative artwork titled Our River, Our Sky, Our Country, Our Story. Created by the school's Indigenous Strong Sisters group, the artwork honours this year's NAIDOC Week theme, '50 Years of Deadly,' recognising five decades of strength, resilience and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Featuring 50 woven raffia circles, the artwork symbolises the sharing of knowledge across generations. Its three interconnected sections represent Country, waterways and sky, with the Parramatta River, the Emu in the Sky constellation and the students’ handprints reflecting a deep and enduring connection to culture, Country and community. Now on display at Westfield Parramatta throughout NAIDOC Week, this meaningful work stands as a powerful expression of identity, storytelling and belonging, and will later be gifted to the Catherine McAuley school community. 💙ALL SET FOR THE DECIDER! 🏉 There's no better way to spend a school holiday night than cheering NSW on to Origin victory. Some of our keenest fans include the students from Mary Immaculate Primary School Quakers Hill and St Pauls Catholic College, Greystanes who got all decked out in team colours for Game 2 last term. St Pauls used their Origin mufti day to fundraise for the Winter Embrace Appeal, helping St Vincent de Paul Society provide essential winter items to those in need. 🖤💛❤️ Our River, Our Sky, Our Country, Our Story 🖤💛❤️ As part of this year's NAIDOC Week celebrations, students from Catherine McAuley Westmead, in collaboration with the Jarara Cultural Centre, have created a stunning collaborative artwork titled 'Our River, Our Sky, Our Country, Our Story'. Created by the school's Indigenous Strong Sisters group, the artwork honours this year's NAIDOC Week theme, '50 Years of Deadly,' celebrating five decades of recognising the strength, resilience and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
