Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) has enjoyed an incredibly positive launch to this year’s National Skills Week, with more than 90 awards of excellence given to students and staff from CSPD schools at the 2024 Rotary Youth Vocational Education Awards Ceremony on Monday 19 August.

Hosted by Parramatta Marist High School, the winners were selected from a total of 29 public, independent and CSPD schools in Western Sydney. Presenting at the awards ceremony, Executive Director of Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Jack de Groot, joined special guests including Donna Davis MP, State Member for Parramatta; Cr Pierre Esber, Lord Mayor of Parramatta; Barry Antees, President Rotary Club of Environment and Habitat; Cheryl Deguara, President Rotary Club Parramatta; Stephen McKee, President Rotary Club Granville; Richard Gremmo, Director of Gremmo Homes, and Wayne Taranto, Chief Operating Officer of Ovolo Hotels.

Principal of host school Parramtta Marist, Mark Pauschmann, thanked the Rotary Clubs for their ongoing support of VET in schools.

“A special thanks goes to the Rotary Clubs and their Presidents for supporting VET in schools and acknowledging the hard work of our students and teachers,” Mark said.

CSPD has a long established reputation as a leader in skills education, an important focus area given that over 60 per cent of total employment growth has been in occupations with a VET-related pathway (Shared vision, equal pathways report 2024). With 320 classes across CSPD schools providing high quality Vocational Education and Training, it was no surprise to see such a large number of staff and students recognised.
