Meet Jacinta Edmonds-Brown, a recent graduate of Marian Catholic College Kenthurst who is featured in ARTICULATE, the HSC Visual Arts Showcase of exemplary work from students across the Parramatta Diocese.
Jacinta produced a striking series of paintings entitled Melancholy of the Modern Muse. Her body of work delved into the disparity between humanity and the environment, examining the profound impact of human activity on the natural world.
Jacinta drew creative inspiration from the poetry of Emily Dickinson, as well as artists such as George Gittoes and Frances Bacon, exploring how the earth itself can become a powerful medium for human and emotional expression.
Her passion for Visual Arts has been evident since a young age. She describes the subject as offering a unique kind of intensity, one that engages the mind differently from other academic disciplines. During her senior years, she would often spend her free lessons working in the art studio, further honing her craft. For Jacinta, art is not only about storytelling but also about what is visible and how it interacts with the world around it.
She credits her success to the support of her Visual Arts teacher, Mrs Haggott, who encouraged her artistic development and nurtured her creative confidence. Jacinta also explained how her teacher always taught her to consider the audience's opinion.
Jacinta has begun a three-year degree in Film at the University of Sydney. She hopes to pursue a career in film direction and also dreams of writing novels in the future.
