Matea Novak
Another young talent featured in ARTICULATE, the Parramatta Diocesan HSC Visual Arts Showcase, Matea Novak is set to make her mark on the entertainment industry as she begins a degree in Screen Design and Production at Macquarie University this year.
For Matea, the choice felt natural - an ideal way to combine her passions for visual arts, music and theatre into one dynamic vocation. The recent Catherine McAuley Westmead graduate describes herself as someone who thrives on hands-on creativity and finds deep satisfaction in the artworks she produces.
Studying Visual Arts for her HSC gave Matea a valuable outlet and a welcome escape from her academic work. She enjoyed the process of planning and creating her body of work, often singing while she worked. Her concept explored the many forms of love we experience in life, drawing inspiration from her friends, family, pets and even a Phoebe Bridgers song that reflects themes of love and loss.
Matea credits her success to focusing on one core artmaking skill, seeking regular feedback, avoiding comparisons with others and the steady encouragement of her mum, who always reminded her to stay on track. Despite her disciplined approach, she admits the journey wasn’t without its challenges. One memorable setback involved a fruit fly crash-landing onto her artwork, leaving an unremovable bloodstain.
With her work nominated for ARTEXPRESS, Matea has this advice to current Visual Arts students preparing for their HSC: “Set regular progress milestones, avoid last-minute rushes and don’t force creativity. Let your passion guide the process.”

Her featured digital series, titled “Lost in Revelry", beautifully captures the essence of becoming fully absorbed in the creative process.

🌟 HOMEGROWN TALENT 🌟 Big congratulations to Year 10 student Angela T from Nagle College, Blacktown South, who was recently selected by Basketball Australia to attend a national training camp at the Centre of Excellence in Canberra! 🏀 👏 The elite camp is part of the lead up to the FIBA U16 Asia Cup, set to take place in Malaysia from September 10–22. 🙏❤️ REMEMBERING BISHOP KEVIN MANNING 🙏❤️ Today marks one year since the passing of Bishop Kevin Manning. Appointed as the second Bishop of Parramatta in 1997, he faithfully led the Diocese for over 12 years until his retirement in 2010. As the communities across Western Sydney and Blue Mountains expanded, Bishop Manning helped shape the identity of Australia’s youngest diocese. ⛪ Respected across Australia, Bishop Manning oversaw the rebuilding of St Patrick’s Cathedral after the 1996 fire and remained deeply committed to those on the margins of society. Throughout his ministry, he championed justice for workers, First Nations peoples, migrants and refugees, women, children and young people. His dedication to unity and dialogue was also evident in his time as President of the NSW Ecumenical Council. 🚌🏫👩🏫 In honour of his legacy of faith, compassion and service, the Bishop Manning Support Fund continues his mission by offering the gift of a Catholic education to families in need. A heartfelt 🫶THANK YOU🫶 to our incredible school communities for their generosity, compassion and ongoing support of their school fundraising initiatives! 🤲❤️ 👏 Here’s a look at just some of the inspiring fundraising and donation efforts recently completed across our schools: 🌟 St Angela's Primary School, St Patrick's Parramatta, St Monica's Primary School Richmond , St Michael's Blacktown South, Our Lady of the Nativity, Lawson NSW, Trinity C.P.S Kemps Creek, Holy Spirit St Clair, St Patrick's Primary School Blacktown, St Madeleine's Primary, Kenthurst, Good Shepherd Plumpton, Holy Cross Primary Glenwood have collected an overwhelming amount of bedding, warm clothing, toiletries and food for the Vinnies NSW Winter Appeal. These were lovingly packed into hampers to support those in need this winter.🧣❄️ 🌟 Caroline Chisholm College generously donated items to the Jesuit Social Services Ignite Store, providing support to vulnerable members of the community. 🌟 Catherine McAuley Westmead donated $2000 worth of groceries to The Big Give supporting the Parramatta Women's Shelter, offering much-needed relief to local families.
